The Acupuncture and Therapeutic Massage Center was established in 1999
primarily offering medical massage and acupuncture with complimentary
modalities to enhance structural healing of the body and treat illness and injury.
In an effort to meet the Midcoast area's growing needs, we were able to design
and build our new office space which opened in 2006 and allowed room for
three more practitioners to join our practice. Our goal is to continue to grow
and to educate the public of our belief that bodywork is not just a luxury, it is a
necessary ingredient towards a healthy lifestyle. Touch is the body's instinctual
response to pain and stress. For centuries, cultures around the world have
recognized the therapeutic power of touch and utilized massage, acupuncture,
and other techniques as natural healing tools. Besides relaxing the body and
mind, bodywork stimulates positive physiological and psychological effects
helping us to maintain good health and achieve optimal performance.

I have been practicing Acupunture since 2000. Previously I
was an elementary school teacher for 25 years. I have also
taught real estate courses at the university. I originally
decided to explore Acupuncture, when an acupuncturist told
me that it could help children with ADHD. I really did not
believe this, but as an educator, I thought it was my duty to
explore this avenue. I attended acupunture school in Hawaii,
with the belief that if it didn't work, I could improve my
tennis game and learn how to surf. Needless to say, I saw and
experienced many wonderful things that I was able to bring
back to my practice in Maine.

Karen Guiou, MS, APRN, is a reflexologist,
Therapeutic Touch and Reiki practitioner, and
Advanced Practice RN. She has completed the Natural
Wellness Certification Program for Healthcare
Professionals through Clayton College of Natural
Health and is currently completing studies as a
Community Herbalist. She organically grows many of
the herbs she uses. "I have a strong foundation in the
physical sciences. At the same time, I have had many
years experience using energy healing and years of
study with indigenous healers. Through my work, I
hope to be a bridge between worlds for those who
seek the path to wholeness - Body, Mind, Spirit. I
utilize the more physical based reflexology along with
energy methods of Therapeutic Touch and Reiki, and
when appropriate, the use of plant energies through
herbs, to bring relaxation and healing to my clients."

Sarah is a graduate of Morse High School and U. Maine at
Farmington, holding a bachelors degree in Community
Health Education. She received her massage training from
the Downeast School of Massage, graduating in 2004. She
has completed many continuing education courses
including in-depth explorations of head, neck, and
shoulder pathologies. She is a member of the American
Massage Therapy Association. "I believe massage therapy is
a core component in enhancing the body's innate ability to
restore and maintain good health. Whether looking for
pain relief or stress reduction, I use a variety of massage
techniques to customize each session to my client's
individual needs. I specialize in deep tissue therapy but
also practice Swedish and pregnancy massage. I truly
believe in the many benefits of massage therapy and feel so
fortunate to have a career I love and am passionate about."

Cassandra is a 2005 graduate of Polarity Realization
Institute where she specialized in therapeutic massage.
As part of her 600 hour program she studied deep
tissue, trigger point therapy, neuromuscular, myofacial
release, pregnancy, Swedish, and sports massage. She is
a member of the Associated Bodywork & Massage
Professionals. "Massage therapy is an incredible tool
used to aide the body in healing from both physical and
emotional trauma. With intuition and my training I'm
able to help the muscles release and unwind."
